  • On 19 October 1974, the Woodlands officially opened
  • In 1972, as a response to the growth in nearby Houston, the Mitchell Energy & Development Corporation started to build a planned community called Woodlands on 23,000 acres of land. Energy is the biggest sector in The Woodlands.
  • There are now nine villages in the woods
  • McCullough was the first secondary school to open in 1976.
  • In 1987 the Hardy Toll Road opened to the Bush International Airport, a fast road.
  • In 1990 Frank Sinatra opened his lovely Cynthia Woods Pavilion Mitchell.
  • Tamina’s Sweet Rest Cemetery has been sleeping for over ten years and is inaccessible due to the water standing. Tamina was occupied by liberated slaves who helped to construct an area-wide railway.
